This place was great but I went broke by dessert time. If you have the money and live for class, then this place is for you.

The dining room is sensational: two stories high, with glass-walled balcony, immense oval mirrors hanging over the bar, and a full-bodied stone mermaid poised to greet you at the entrance. Gather at the bar first to feel a part of the loud and trendy scene; while you're there, why not nosh on something from the bar menu, perhaps the crispy fried calamari or maybe a luscious pork spring roll? This continues to be one of the city's most popular restaurants, so call way ahead to book a reservation. Chef Jeff Tunks is famous for his Chinese-style smoked lobster with crispy fried spinach -- you'll almost always find it on the menu here. Other entrees that I recommend include the pan-seared sea scallops, and the fish filet encrusted with portobello paste and served with truffled potatoes and porcini broth. Seafood is a big part of the menu, but there are a handful of meat dishes, too. TenPenh is another popular Tunks restaurant.

One of the finest qualities of this amazing restaurant is the maitre d' Ralph. He will make your visit extremely special. Another aspect that is fantastic is the live jazz band on Thursday nights. Now that I have finished with the basic niceties of the restaurant, let me tell you of the food! While a bit on the expensive range, the food was simply magnificent. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed the filet mignon. It was simply delightful and we each enjoyed

The chef clearly loves to experiment with fusion dishes here, and every visit is greated by a new suprise or two on the menu. So no matter how many nights you greet here, you'll always experience something new.

The Food and Restaurant
DC Coast. Yum. Nicely appointed dowtown location. Nice bar area. A HUGE mermaid greets you at the door. It was rather noisy and busy. We had a table near the kitchen and a busy thoroughfare near the steps leading upstairs. Next time, we'll ask for an upstairs table. But that was the ONLY downside to the place.
Wonderful service from our very in the know wait staff person. She knew the menu, she listened for comments in order to make recommendations. She was always there when you needed her and she was never in the way. She was super friendly and nice to boot. She even took a few pictures for us!
DC Coast is known for its seafood, but is also known for, well, really just good food. That and it is a place to be seen. Don’t get me wron, DC is not Hollywood or NYC, but, for the Capital City, it is a hotspot. If you want to be seen or to see "somebodies", this is one of the pl ... more

Wonderful meal. The exotic mushroom and goat cheese chili relleno was very good. The flavors distinct and went well together. The "buffalo" crispy fried oysters were superb, the bleu cheese and onion nest complemented them perfectly. The asparagus, prosciutto and mozzarella salad was a piece of art in presentation and tasted wonderful. The grilled ribeye was cooked perfectly and came with a mound of crisp onions that were a treat in themselves. The pan seared sea scallops were perfect, tender, juicy and delicious. The mushroom crusted halibut came with a protibello mushroom and truffled potatls and was just right. The deserts were also very good, the chocolate three ways was a hit as was the homemade mint chocolate chip icecrem. The binyets were so good, who needs to go to New Orleans to get them. Service was efficient and friendly without being intrusive. The wine list is very good, tending to botique wines, but reasonably prices. There are quite a few wines ... more

The food is excellent and the service is great. They combine coastal flavors from New Orleans and California and East Coast. Chef jeff Tuck is one of the beat chefs in Washington. The menu is changed periodically so that nobody gets tired of the same thing. This is truely a dining experience. The atomspere and the service is second to none. This is a place not to be missed. I suggest the you make reservations to insure your experience. Bontite.
